Seit der Veröffentlichung des neuen EV3 Systems habe ich E-Mails von Lehrkräften bekommen, mit der Frage was sie tun sollen. Sollen sie mit dem alten NXT weitermachen oder sich den neuen EV3 kaufen? In den letzten paar Monaten hatte ich die Möglichkeit, EV3 genauer unter die Lupe zu nehmen und ich muss sagen „es kommt drauf an“.
 
Bevor ich die Frage beantworte, muss ich sagen, dass ich erstaunlich guten Unterricht gesehen habe, unabhängig vom eingesetzten Roboter. Es ist viel wichtiger „was“ unterrichtet wird, als mit welchem „Roboter-System“ etwas unterrichtet wird. Ich kenne sogar Lehrkräfte die benutzen immer noch und mit Erfolg das RCX System um Kinder zu motivieren. Der neue EV3 macht auf keiner Weise den NXT oder RCX überflüssig.

Marita Cheng (Churchill Fellow*, 2011 und Gründerin von Robogals), forscht an "effektiven Strategien, um Schülerinnen für Science, Technologie, Engineering und Math (STEM) bzw. Matehmatik, Informatik, Naturwissenschaften und Technik zu begeistern".
 
Im Rahmen ihrer Forschung, besuchte Marita Cheng (von Januar bis März 2012) ausgewählte Initiativen und Projekte in den USA, Jamaika, Indien, Deutschland und Großbritanien.  
 
Bei ihrem Besuch in Deutschland war Frau Cheng auch am Fraunhofer IAIS, um die Roberta-Initiative näher kennen zu lernen und um sich in einem intensiven Austausch mit dem Konzept, der Motivation und den Ziele von Roberta und Fraunhofer IAIS auseinander zu setzen. 
 
Neben dem Besuch bei Fraunhofer IAIS standen u.a. Forschungsaufenthalte in Grobritanien (The Royal Academy of Engineering) USA (MIT Media Labs) und bei der Academy of Science and Design in New Hampshire auf ihrem Programm.

Since 2002 "Roberta" takes girls and young women into the fascinating world of robots, where they can learn science, technology and math (STEM).
 
Now "Roberta" extens her range: in addition to build and program Robots. Students get the chance in the future Roberta courses to develop their own smartphone apps. The Foundation "Google.org supports the project with a total grant amount of $ 250,000.

With support from the Fraunhofer Representative Office Japan, led by Dr. Lorenz Granrath, the German School Tokyo Yokohama (DSTY) 2010 could be inaugurated as the first Roberta school outside Europe.

There is something new to marvel at at the RobertaLab. We have developed an Android-App that enables you to command your Lego Mindstorms NXT robot by voice. You can setup up to four voice commands. Afterwards you can connect these voice commands to motor/move commands.

The software NXT-G simulates LEGO Mindstorms robots (of the NXT System). It enables the user to program a virtual robot with the usual programming languages (NXT-G code and NXC). The behavior of the real robot to be expected can be observed in real time on the monitor. The virtual robot's control has been adapted from the one of the real robot. 
 
The simulator is available for all certified Roberta Roberta-Teacher as a free download on the internal area of the portal to Roberta!
 
 

31.08.2010 - From now on the LEGO Mindstorms RCX Simulator - RobertaSim - is ready for download for all certified and registered Roberta Teachers on the internal pages of the Roberta portal.
 
 
RobertaSim can be used to simulate LEGO Mindstorms robots (of the Robotics Invention System 2.0 series). The software enables the user to program a virtual robot with the usual programming languages (RIS/RCX code and NQC). The behavior of the real robot to be expected can be observed in real time on the monitor. The virtual robot's operation has been adapted from the one of the real robot.
